The 5th Gear Approach to driving instruction
Learner drivers should be treated as individuals. The one size fits all approach does not work when teaching people to drive as each of us has a different temperament, aptitudes and skills. I believe that learning to drive should be enjoyable experience and that my pupils have the maximum opportunity to develop their driving skills by varying what is taught or practised within each lesson. Everyone should end a lesson feeling they have made progress or achieved something new.
While the pass rates achieved by 5th Gear Driving School pupils are well above the national average it would be foolish to guarantee that everyone will pass their test first time. No matter how confident and well prepared pupils are, nerves can, and do, take over at critical times. The DSA practical driving test allows for up to 15 minor faults. What I guarantee is that:
- the quality of the driving tuition you receive will be high,
- your driving lessons will be tailored to suit your individual needs,
- I will make the learning experience as enjoyable for you as possible,
- I will do everything I can to ensure you become a confident and safe driver
- being aware of what is going on around you,
- making others aware of your intentions,
- anticipating hazards to improve your safety and that of others, and
- acquiring the skills needed to avoid accidents.
Car
My training vehicle is a manually driven Peugeot 207 purchased in August 2010. It is air conditioned and is fitted with the latest safety features including dual controls. The car is compact, very manoeuvrable and has all round good visibility. It is an ideal vehicle to learn in.
